Physiotherapy for incontinence has been shown to improve not only pelvic floor strength but daily function as well. It can help at any stage from pregnancy to post-natal and post-menopause.
What to expect
When you make a booking with the physiotherapist ensure that you let our reception staff know that it is for a women’s health assessment. This ensures that we have to time available to make a full assessment and have to equipment required for assessment and treatment.
Your first assessment will include a history taking, discussion about your main problems and often include an external examination (if you are comfortable with this). This examination allows the physiotherapist to assess the function and strength of you pelvic floor.
The physiotherapist can also use real-time ultrasound for assessment and treatment. This is a non-invasive way to assess the pelvic floor muscles and provide an exercise program.
The most important part of your rehabilitation is pelvic floor exercises. The physiotherapist will provide you with an individual program and explain when and how many exercises you should do through the day.
The physiotherapist can also provide you with advice regarding return to work or sport post pregnancy and low back pain during pregnancy.
