Tori West

Discipline: Athletics - Heptathlon

I was scouted out by my first coach in Townsville to throw Javelin at 15. He told me I would be a National Champion in a year and I was.

Growing up I competed in different athletic events and sports like Tennis, Basketball & Boxing.

Eventually, in 2017, I committed to the heptathlon in a bid to compete at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. In 9 months I achieved 23 PBs and went from unranked to #2 scoring a B qualifier. I didn’t make the team in the end, but the confidence gained from this season kept me in the sport and motivated to see how good I could be.

Since then I have scored 6028 points 2020 to win the Australian Championship. I was the first Australian to score over 6000pts in 13 years.

My goal is to break the Australian Heptathlon record and win a major championship medal.

Considering how late I started the heptathlon, it’s been a process of patience to get my body right for the training load and gaining experience in technical events.

I’m excited to see what I can produce this coming season.
