Exercise Physiology is the study of the effect of exercise on a range of physical conditions. Such chronic health conditions include Type 2 Diabetes, Heart Disease, Osteoporosis, Arthritis, Obesity and Depression. An exercise physiologist is not limited to care of chronic health conditions, also being recognised as exercise professionals who assist in athlete development and performance.
An Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP) has completed a University qualification in the study of human movement, biomechanics, physiology and anatomy and are subsequently recognised as having completed appropriate work experience by Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA). Medicare then recognises the AEP as an allied health provider.
An AEP is then suitable for referral to assist in the management of chronic health conditions under Medicare team care plans, Type 2 Diabetes groups (Medicare), TCA, Worksafe and Department of Veterans Affairs. Patients are also eligible for rebates under their Private Health Insurance, please refer to your insurer for details.
