Kara Leighton

Kara graduated from Deakin University in 2016 where she successfully completed her Masters in Clinical Exercise Physiology.
Kara specialises in clinical exercise prescription and the delivery of exercise alongside lifestyle modification to prevent or manage acute, chronic disease or injury. She believes individualised treatment with active participation is the key to making positive lifestyle changes.
Kara can treat and manage a broad range of conditions throughout all phases of treatment.
These include, but are not limited to, the conditions listed below:

  • Cardiopulmonary: hypertension, coronary artery disease, peripheral vascular disease, myocardial infarction, chronic heart failure, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cystic fibrosis.
  • Metabolic: obesity, dyslipidaemias, impaired glucose tolerance and diabetes mellitus.
  • Musculoskeletal: arthritis, osteoporosis, sub-acute and chronic specific and nonspecific musculoskeletal pain / injuries.
  • Neurological/Neuromuscular: stroke, spinal cord injury, acquired brain injury, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy.
  • Other: cancers, mental illness and conditions associated with ageing.

Kara has a keen interest in netball, previously representing our region in the Netball Victoria State Titles. Outside of work Kara still currently plays netball and enjoys regular sessions at the gym.
Kara has also started Type 2 Diabetes ‘Get Active’ 8-week program aiming to improve Type 2 Diabetes management with the combination of education and exercise intervention. For those eligible, the program is completely funded by Medicare. Please speak to your local GP for more details or contact me below.
